Karen Dusenbury Peterson is a native Kansan with pioneer roots. She lives in Manhattan with her five "helpful" felines, who inspired the Sassy-Cats Designs name. Genealogy, photography and writing are other interests.

With degrees in home economics and journalism, instructional media, and art education from KSU, she has taught classes in Batik, and Metal Crafts and Jewelry for the Manhattan Recreation Commission. She holds a Ph.D. degree and is retired from a 22-year career as a Library Media Specialist at Junction City High School.

Karen says, "I appreciate beauty, the interesting and unexpected, the amusing…. In my jewelry and the other items I make, I try to express these things (not all at the same time, of course). I use a variety of media – vintage beads, semi-precious stones, Swarovski crystals, natural materials, various metals – with a few surprises thrown in."

"Working with beads relaxes me and makes me happy. While I've heard people say that all the choices involved would drive them crazy, it's one of the things I like the most. And it's these choices that make it possible to make each piece unique."
